Healthy Diwali Recipes to Try


Diwali is the time of the year when your diet plan goes awry. Being the most famous Indian festival, you allow yourself to indulge in tasty treats by the mouthful. And, we don’t blame you, Diwali Sweets are so delicious and rich that it’s just impossible to give into temptations of treats that come with loads of calories.

Fear, not We have some delicious sweet and snack recipes that are healthy and don’t take a toll on your stomach. Here are some delicious and healthy Diwali treats you can try:


1. Kaju Katli

Kaju katli is everybody’s favourite sweet that is never missed in a Diwali celebration. Well, here is a healthy version of this wholesome sweet made with honey instead of sugar

Ingredients:

  • Cashew Nuts – 2 Cups
  • Honey – 1 Cup
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast the cashews in a pan for about five minutes without burning them. Once you see a slight change in colour, turn off heat and set aside.
  2. Let the roasted cashews cool and then grind them to a coarse powder.
  3. Heat a non-stick pan, add water and honey. Heat it till it bubbles up.
  4. Add the cashew powder and stir continuously with a spatula. Keep stirring until it thickens up and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  5. Line parchment paper in a large tray and then dump the cashew mixture and flatten it.
  6. Refrigerate for an hour. Take it out and place silver foil,
  7. Cut in diamond shapes and your healthy treat is ready to serve

2. Roasted Poha and Nuts Chivda

Try this roasted nuts and poha namkeen delight using less oil. Make it healthy with your choice of nuts along with a dash of lemon powder for its umami flavour.

Ingredients -

  • Thin Poha – 2 Cups
  • Oil – 1 Teaspoon
  • Mustard Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • Roasted Split Bengal Gram or Channa Dal – 2 Teaspoon
  • Peanuts – 2 Teaspoon
  • Your Choice of Nuts and Raisins – Almonds, Cashew, Pistachio – 1 Cup
  • Dried Coconut Slices (Optional) – 1 Teaspoon
  • Sugar – 1 Tsp
  • Amchur Powder – 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Ginger Powder – A pinch
  • Turmeric Powder – 1 Teaspoon
  • Hing Powder – 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Chilly Powder to taste
  • A pinch of Lemon Powder

Instruction:

  1. Heat a pan on medium flame, roast the poha for about 5 minutes till it turns crispy and slightly changes colour. Turn off flame and set it aside
  2. In the same pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds, allow them to splutter and add Khadak Hing
  3. Next, add in curry leaves and saute, add the dried coconut slices, channa dal and peanuts. Mix them altogether.
  4. Then, add in all the powders -ginger, chilly, turmeric, amchur, salt and sugar
  5. Add the nuts. Roast them all together along with the powders and mix well
  6. Lastly add the roasted poha, give a good mix
  7. Finally add the finishing lemon powder
  8. Turn off the flame, let it cool and serve it along with tea

3. Dates Sesame Ladoo

If you are looking for sugar-free desserts, then this treat is a must-try. It is healthy and nutritious, Kids are sure to fall in love with it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Dates
  • 1 Cup Sesame Seeds
  • 1/4 Cup Cashews Chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Sesame Seeds for Rolling
  • 4 Green Cardamoms

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast sesame seeds in a pan until they turn aromatic. Cool and powder them along with cardamoms
  2. Saute dates in 1 Teaspoon of Ghee or coconut oil until they are cooked and your are able to mash them.
  3. Then add the sesame seeds powder little by little. Add the chopped cashews. Turn off flame and knead to a soft mixture while it is hot.
  4. Take a small pinch and roll it in a ball shape.
  5. Roll them in the sesame seeds, You can also use desiccated coconut.
  6. Store the ladoos in an air tight jar.
